And planning trips around unique places to stay like yurts or treehouses just got a whole lot easier with the global release of Flexible Destinations. Announced several weeks ago as part of a major update to our service, this feature joins a suite of new ‘flexible’ product innovations designed to completely transform the browsing and booking experience on Airbnb. If you own a unique abode like a cabin, tiny home, treehouse or shepherd’s hut, it’s time to consider hosting on Airbnb.

As part of this, it is important that we recognize the Black community’s long standing fight for equality and we applaud the passage of legislation to make Juneteenth a federal holiday in the United States. Starting this year, Airbnb will observe Juneteenth as a paid company holiday for all employees in the United States. To honor Juneteenth, Black@, Airbnb’s employee resource group for Black employees, wanted to highlight the global fight of Black people against oppression. This campaign features an essay from bestselling author Carvell Wallace that details how these uprisings served as a catalyst for societal shifts in consciousness and understanding. Congratulations to the inaugural grant recipients of the Airbnb Community Fund, which is distributing $10 million in grants in 2021 to 150+ organizations that are strengthening communities around the world, such as the Mann Deshi Foundation and the Affordable Homeownership Foundation. These organizations are working to meet unprecedented needs brought about by the pandemic focused on economic empowerment and education. A huge thank you to our Host Advisory Board, who selected the grant focus areas and worked with our program partner, GlobalGiving, to compile a list of global organizations working to meet these needs.

With rural travel growing in popularity, we’re excited to announce the launch of the Airbnb Entrepreneurship Academy in the US. Introduced in Asia and Africa, this immersive training program helps empower communities and make it easier to host, and this launch will initially focus on select rural communities in North Carolina, including the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
Today, we’re announcing the launch of Live Anywhere on Airbnb, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for 12 participants and up to three companions each to live exclusively in listings on Airbnb for approximately one year. Participants will provide insights on features, services, and the experience of nomadic living, that could help shape the future of flexible living on Airbnb, including: - Product changes and resources that could help improve the long-term living experience - Ideal types of accommodations for solo travelers or groups like families - Connections to local community members and businesses - Better understanding of financial benefits of hosting while traveling Airbnb will cover the cost of accommodations and provide an allowance for transportation for the duration of the program.
