Who flies the world? Girls! 🛩️ History is in the making at this year’s Women in Aviation International Conference as we welcomed the first female American Airlines Cadet Academy graduates into our mainline flight deck. This milestone not only continues to diversify our pilot ranks, but secures the future of our airline’s pilot population. We’re excited to partner with #WAI to encourage and advance women through mentoring, education, networking and scholarship. Welcome to the #AATeam!
When you see it, you can be it! Last week, we teamed up with Mattel, Inc. to surprise customers with Bessie Coleman dolls from the Inspiring Women line on one of our flights. Bessie Coleman was the first Black and Native American female to earn a pilot’s license in 1921. A true pioneer in aviation who taught us the sky is just the beginning. To keep the inspiration going, our #AATeam hosted a unique event for aviation students at the Ronald E. McNair public school 5 in Brooklyn, New York — a place designed to encourage youth to follow and build upon Bessie Coleman’s rich legacy. Students could hear firsthand from Bessie’s great niece, Gigi Coleman, and test their skills on flight simulators guided by members of our #AATeam. And, to really drive home the excitement, each of the students was presented with a Bessie Coleman doll to remind them that you can accomplish anything if you let your dreams take flight. #LetGoodTakeFlight
Our partnership with Air Link led to a positive impact on the world! As the nation of Haiti struggles to control a dire cholera outbreak, we've carried more than 55 tons of medical and sanitation supplies to help those in need. Read more about these efforts for Haiti at https://bit.ly/3wlOl4i.
Our #AATeam and the American Airlines CR Smith Museum recently helped bridge the gap between the classroom and real world to expose students to #STEM aviation careers. After competing in a month-long Force and Motion competition at their school, 40 eighth grade students from La Academia de Estrellas, a charter school in the Oak Cliff neighborhood in Dallas, spent the day exploring American’s operation and aviation careers. The students visited our DWH Hangar at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to get a behind-the-scenes look at our maintenance operation and then joined students from nearby schools at the museum’s Aviation Career Day. They had the opportunity to connect with STEM-focused #AATeam members, learn about different aviation professions and participated in hands-on activities to build STEM self-efficacy.
Our Latin Diversity Network Employee Business Resource Group recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with a community outreach event in Mexico City. More than 100 airline employees from Mexico and the U.S. joined efforts with the non-profit Glasswing International to refurbish two school playgrounds for communities in need. Watch the full video to see how our LDN EBRG #LetGoodTakeFlight.
We’re TWO-excited to welcome a new group of pilots to the #AATeam, including the first two graduates of our Cadet Academy to receive their mainline wings, First Officers Keith Taylor and Damion Washington! These gentlemen can’t be stopped! They are shining examples of what can happen when you let your dreams take flight.
We’re excited to launch our new video series — American Minute. In our first episode, Flight Attendant Jacqueline Brown explains how HEPA filters clean the air on board our aircraft to help make your travel journey safer. Check it out!
