John Steckel selected as new CEO of AMERICAN SYSTEMS effective September 6 August 7, 2023 – Chantilly, Va. – AMERICAN SYSTEMS, a leading provider of cutting-edge engineering and IT solutions, today announced the selection of John Steckel as President and CEO effective September 6, 2023. Steckel, the current VP, Corporate Development for AMERICAN SYSTEMS, replaces Peter Smith, who is retiring on September 5 after serving as President and CEO since August 2014. Smith will continue to have a role on the company’s board of directors. “My nine-year tenure as CEO of AMERICAN SYSTEMS has been the pinnacle of my 43-year career with the company, but I feel that it is the right time for me to transition to the next chapter in my life, knowing the company is in such great hands,” said Smith. “AMERICAN SYSTEMS is well-positioned in our market and has an exceptionally strong senior leadership team in place. AMERICAN SYSTEMS Wins $118 Million U.S. Department of Homeland Security Customs & Border Protection Contract March 7, 2022 — Chantilly, VA — AMERICAN SYSTEMS has won a $118 million single award task order under the General Services Administration’s Alliant 2 contract to support the Department of Homeland Security Customs & Border Protection. AMERICAN SYSTEMS will provide Independent Verification & Validation (IV&V) services to verify and validate that all products and systems acquired for border control and security at and between the United States Ports of Entry comply with CBP requirements and that program management is performed in an effective and efficient manner. Under the terms of the five-year task order, AMERICAN SYSTEMS will fulfill requirements that span the full spectrum of IV&V and systems engineering services throughout the entire program lifecycle across the CBP enterprise. This work will primarily be done in Washington, D.C. but also will include support at border locations.

AMERICAN SYSTEMS-Led Joint Venture Awarded Position on $264 Million IDIQ Contract to Support NASA December 18, 2018 — Chantilly, VA — AMERICAN SYSTEMS has won a multiple-award indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract award to perform engineering and technical support services (ETSS) for NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC) in Edwards, California. NASA awarded this contract to New Horizons Aeronautics (NHAero), a joint venture led by AMERICAN SYSTEMS with small business partner Millennium Engineering & Integration Company (MEI). The maximum potential value of the eight-year contract is $264,000,000 and the period of performance begins on February 1, 2019. The ETSS contract includes engineering expertise for research, flight, and mission operations; engineering support for facilities and safety/mission assurance; and support for various technical functions including project planning and control, range support, lab support, and special studies.
AMERICAN SYSTEMS Awarded $68.6 Million Task Order for U.S. Air Force Emergency Mass Notification System January 15, 2018 — Chantilly, VA — AMERICAN SYSTEMS today announced it was awarded a task order to develop and implement a cloud-based enterprise Emergency Mass Notification System (EMNS) solution for the U.S. Air Force (USAF). The five-year task order, valued at $68.6 million, was awarded under the USAF NETCENTS-2: Network Operations and Infrastructure Solutions contract vehicle. Under the terms of the task order, AMERICAN SYSTEMS will provide a single USAF enterprise solution to support lifesaving and mission-protective measures. The EMNS will deliver reliable and secure emergency threat notifications to all personnel at all USAF locations on a 24 hour/7 day-a-week basis using the Blackberry AtHoc Crisis Communications Software Suite running on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud. The EMNS solution will increase situational awareness for Airmen and their families, regardless of their physical location, to enable protective measures when tragic events or emergencies occur.
