Life came full circle for Allie, a Clinical Supervisor at Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital, when a former patient became a nurse extern in her hospital this summer. Allie graduated from Carolinas College of Health Sciences Nursing School and immediately began her career at Atrium Health. She started working with adult patients, but her passion for pediatrics led her to Levine Children's Hospital (LCH) in 2016. Allie’s passion for her patients became evident when Jordan, a current nurse extern at Atrium Health, pointed out what a huge impact Allie has on Jordan’s personal life and professional career. The two met in 2018 when Jordan was a senior in high school and a diabetes patient on LCH 9. "I was her bedside nurse for several shifts during her stay," Allie says. "We developed an awesome rapport from early on and bonded about lots of interests outside of work." Jordan's relationship with Allie changed her life for the better and inspired her to pursue nursing at Appalachian State University. She returned to LCH this summer as a nurse extern. "It was amazing to hear about how [Jordan's] life had turned completely around, and she felt so strongly about her experience that she wanted to become a nurse," Allie says. "When she had the opportunity to be a nurse extern with us on LCH 9, we were thrilled! She fits right in as a pediatric nurse, like she has been here for years, and it is amazing to watch her impact on patient lives." #livepurposefully #atriumhealthcareers

Jordan, a Nurse Extern at Atrium Health, is a current nursing student and hopes to join Atrium Health after receiving her nursing degree from Appalachian State University next May. Growing up with Type 1 Diabetes, Jordan was a recurring patient at various hospital systems throughout her life. Around the age of 16, she started feeling overwhelmed and burnt out of taking her insulin. She ended up in Charlotte, NC, at Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital, where she met Allie, Registered Nurse at Atrium Health. Allie was very patient with Jordan and showed a real interest in her life, beyond just the medicine she needed to stay healthy. "I will forever and always be thankful for Allie, as she truly changed the trajectory of my life for the better," Jordan says. Allie inspired Jordan to pursue a career in nursing and provide the same positive influence in other patients' lives. "Nurses really do make a difference, and I know if I can be half the nurse that [Allie] is, I’ll have made a positive impact on the world." Jordan is completing her externship at Atrium Health this summer on the same floor as Allie. "She is an inspiration to me today and every day!" Jordan says. Outside of work and school, Jordan can be found at the gym where she practices competitive powerlifting. She is excited about her future as a Registered Nurse and plans to invite Allie to her pinning ceremony and graduation next May. #livepurposefully #atriumhealthcareers
