Like many Atrium Health teammates, health care technician Hakeem Sanders felt called to health care at an early age. When he was just 8-years old, he helped care for a family member following surgery – even learning how to clean and bandage the wound. “I love people and caring for them,” Hakeem says. “I love the feeling of being helpful and being able to make a difference in someone’s life.” But for Hakeem, making a difference extends beyond his day job. As a registered foster parent, Hakeem has fostered 16 children in addition to caring for one of his own. He’s also helped provide emergency care and support for several children outside of fostering and, because he’s already registered, vetted and approved by the state as a foster parent, he has even been able to provide care for the children of one of his patients. #AdvocateHealth
“We know that part of healing is really letting kids be kids. And so, if that means being a soccer player, let's find a way to safely get on the soccer field. If that's being a dancer, then maybe we connect you to a dancer in the community.” Hear what Callie Dobbins, Senior Vice President and Facility Executive of Atrium Health Levine Children’s, has to say about being a “Best Children’s Hospital” https://charlotte.axios.com/332240/qa-how-atrium-health-levine-childrens-hospital-is-establishing-charlotte-as-a-childrens-health-care-haven/
