This month's featured cultural observance at Atrium Health is Pride Month. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & Queer Pride Month, or just Pride Month for short, is a holiday that is celebrated each year in the month of June. This special time was intentionally set in June to commemorate the Stonewall riots of 1968 in Manhattan, New York in the US. Multiple holidays arose out of the LGBTQ+ movement, and Pride Month has become one of the biggest celebrations all over the United States, with its main center of action in New York City. The celebration also occurs in other parts of the world who join in solidarity with the cause of freedom and rights for all. Mark your calendars with important dates this month from our June DEI Online Calendar: https://teammates.atriumhealth.org/diversity-and-inclusion/dei-online-calendar/june-dei-calendar

Are those who see themselves as “servant leaders” embodying the philosophy? According to Jim Dunn, executive vice president and chief people and culture officer for Advocate Health, of which Atrium Health is now a part, notes that a true servant leader is someone who prioritizes their organization over personal advancement. “The concept of ‘servant leadership’ has recently emerged as a buzzword. But I would argue that few of us have ever really seen it in action because, by its nature, it does not call attention to itself,” states Dunn. “A true servant leader would never refer to themselves as such, because they are focused on the needs of others, not seeking attention or accolades for their own approach.” #AdvocateHealth
