In 2007, when Box was preparing to pivot, companies such as Google and Apple were ramping up their cloud storage services, which offered free online storage to consumers. Pivoting to businesses allowed Box to differentiate itself.

Box users can get a preview of how at least part of the software works through its integration with the new Files app in iOS11, which it has been demoing for the last few months. The new feature will allow Apple users to manage their content no matter where their files are stored.
Box's machine learning technology also serves as an attainable example of machine learning in action.
