"The most influential people in my life are my wife and pastor. My wife and I have 5 children. She is a great mother and is very supportive and attentive of everyone’s needs. This is in addition to being an entrepreneur and continuing her studies. I love and appreciate her for this. My pastor is a great confidante and ensures that my mental health is intact. I know I can always count on him to give me great advice. These people have helped me grow and flourish in more ways than one." - Cortez Hopson, Driver, Breakthru Illinois #BreakthruMoment #BlackHistoryMonth
During Black History Month each February, we celebrate the contributions and achievements of Black and African Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history. Over the coming few weeks, Breakthru Beverage Group, with the support and sponsorship of V.I.B.E. (Voices Invested in Black Equity and Empowerment), our Black Associate Resource Group, will commemorate Black History Month and celebrate the rich cultural heritage, triumphs and adversities that are an indelible part of who we are as a society and nation. We will showcase some of our suppliers and Black-owned brands, along with a number of BBG associates, who will share part of their own personal experience and journey. We’re excited to announce we’ve signed an agreement to acquire California-based Wine Warehouse, the state’s third-largest wholesaler of fine wine, beer and spirits and a top ten wholesaler in the U.S. This milestone expands Breakthru’s footprint to the largest U.S. beverage alcohol market, where we plan to invest broadly and be a major competitive force. Importantly, the move successfully unites two multi-generational, family-owned businesses with well-aligned cultures and missions to create an even stronger company positioned to bring added value, enhanced capabilities and scale, and expanded reach to the suppliers and customers served. With the deal expected to close this spring, we look forward to welcoming Wine Warehouse’s talented leadership and associates to the Breakthru family, leveraging their deep-seeded expertise and passion for the business to help us innovate, enhance service and grow the California market. #BreakthruMoment
“As a first-generation daughter of Mexican immigrants, my individuality is important but so is seeing my culture represented. Latinos get negatively stereotyped and grouped as one thing, but we are all the things and we need to be genuinely represented in all the spaces where we contribute. By 2050 Latinos will make up 30% of the U.S. population so it’s important that we start moving the needle in our industry and embrace this diversity. We need to make our customers and colleagues feel seen, understood, and speak their language. We still have a long journey ahead, this is not just my journey, this is the journey for every Latino who longs to see a positive, successful version of his or herself. I do see a change slowly happening and I work every day to be a part of that change.” – Adriana Ocampo, Multicultural Specialist, Breakthru Colorado #NationalHispanicHeritageMonth
“As one of the leading multicultural societies in the world, Canada is built on the principles of diversity and multiculturalism, and there is an understanding of the many benefits of embracing this as our greatest strength. This approach allows each of us to keep our identity, take pride in our ancestry, and have a sense of belonging. We celebrate various cultures from many ethnic groups as one. At Breakthru, embracing multiculturalism has allowed us to tap into the array of talented people from many different backgrounds and cultures across the country. We take this opportunity to celebrate the many different cultures that have contributed to this mosaic that is our company as we strive to create an environment where all associates can be their true selves and feel valued for who they are. I will continue to inspire a culture where everyone has a sense of belonging, feels respected for their unique cultures, and contributes to their full potential.” – Darcy Traer, Executive Vice President, Breakthru Canada
“When we observe Pride during the month of June, it allows us the opportunity to celebrate, honor, reflect, and learn about figures such as Marsha P. Johnson, Harvey Milk, Edith Windsor, and countless others who fought for our human rights and lay the groundwork for diversity, equality, and inclusion. Diversity promotes inclusivity and creativity, and it brings perspectives from all angles to each conversation. It matters for me to know my identity will not hinder the trajectory of my career at Breakthru Beverage Group and that the company will champion and celebrate my uniqueness as an asset and nurture my growth. It is my hope that this conversation will afford my fellow and future colleagues the courage to live their truths.” – Jeremy Bryant, Field Sales Manager, Breakthru South Carolina #PrideMonth
“I’m grateful for the progress we have made as a society over the years, and proud of the work so many LGBTQ+ leaders have accomplished to bring us to this moment. I’m humbled and honored to carry that same drive and passion for building a community where everyone feels welcomed to Breakthru. This is a responsibility that is incredibly personal to me because creating a workplace where all people feel valued isn’t just a Breakthru responsibility — it’s part of who I strive to be at home, too. I want to set the right example for my kids and teach them to live their truths and be proud of who they are. Each of us has our own unique perspectives and experiences, and we need to celebrate one another.” – Hillary Wirtz, Director, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Breakthru Beverage Group #PrideMonth
“It’s an incredible honor to be kicking off Pride Month here at Breakthru Beverage. This is something that touches close to home as two of my children are members of the LGBTQ+ community. Equality has long been a personal headline for me and is something I believe is always worth fighting for. The most basic tenants of inclusiveness and diversity demand it. Everyone should have the opportunity to be who they are and to be treated equally. As a leader of this company, I intend to continue to be a voice and an advocate for our LGBTQ+ community, and I am committed to creating a culture that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion here and across our industry.” – Julian Burzynski, President, East U.S. Region, Breakthru Beverage Group #PrideMonth
