A luxury Texino camper van — converted into a mobile vaccination clinic, with freezers and trained staff inside — carried the vaccine doses. Jose Aceves was overseeing it all for Curative, an L.A. startup that has provided COVID-19 tests and vaccines.
Curative partners with Alameda County to provide vaccination services for those who are deaf and hard of hearing.
“This is the ground work,” said Dr. Sly Douglas, the Northeast regional leader for Curative, a state vaccine contractor, which has forged partnerships with community leaders at small sites in cities like Haverhill and Springfield. “By bringing the vaccine here, we try to make this as easy and accessible as possible. For a lot of people, if they don’t come here, they don’t get vaccinated.”
"But there’s one thing L.A. irrefutably got right. It partnered with CORE, Sean Penn’s emergency aid organization, and Curative Inc., a San Dimas-based diagnostics startup, to offer free testing to the public at 10 city-run sites, including the drive-thru in Chavez Ravine."

Almost overnight, it became a testing powerhouse in California and is now doing work across America. Fred Turner, Curative’s 25-year-old CEO, explains how he went from college dropout to testing hero.
