Please join Equity Residential in welcoming Tanya Foster, our new Diversity & Inclusion Director. Tanya has worked in the D&I space for 8 years and has developed strategies and initiatives to recruit, develop and retain diverse employees. She has overseen strategic committees and employee resource groups and developed and managed diversity-related events and communications. “I am excited to join Equity Residential because the organization has momentum for creating a strong Diversity and Inclusion platform,” Tanya says. Indeed, D&I is one of the key areas Equity is focused on in 2019 and beyond. By hiring a dedicated, experienced practitioner, Equity is demonstrating our commitment to creating a community where employees’ voices are heard and their unique perspectives fuel creativity and innovation. As Tanya elaborates, “The principles of fairness and equity embodied by diversity and inclusion are important because they help to create the space for individuals to bring their most authentic selves to work and to have equal access to the support and resources they need to thrive."
Equity Residential, along with our home support partner, Apartment List, engaged with Yetunde Price Resource Center (YPRC) in Compton, CA, a leading non-profit organization founded by Serena and Venus Williams. YPRC provides wrap-around resources to residents of all ages in the Compton community. Equity stepped up to support YPRC by providing two, rent-free apartments to Center members in need of safe and comfortable homes. Equity’s home support initiative is one more example of living our purpose: creating communities where people thrive and a reminder that our homes and families extend beyond our property lines. We are proud to be part of the larger tapestry of cities and neighborhoods in which we live, work and serve.
Equity Residential is committed to supporting community and charitable causes in the cities where we do business. As part of our commitment to helping those in need, creating communities where people thrive, and ensuring our employees have opportunities to participate in events scheduled during the typical workweek, Equity is proud to offer our employees a Community Service benefit: paid time off to serve your community, either independently or along with your colleagues at a company-sponsored event. 🤝🌎✨ Check out the video to learn more, and thank you to all of our team members who work hard to support the communities where we live, work and play with your commitment to community service! 🌟

Connections for Abused Women and their Children (CAWC) is an organization committed to ending domestic violence through empowerment and self-help. They provide shelter, counseling and advocacy for people affected by domestic violence, and this year Equity Residential was recognized as a Transformational Sponsor at the annual Sounds of Silence Gala, where supporters from throughout the community collectively raised over $265,000 and continued the conversation on a vitally important topic. Every day, CAWC works hard to end domestic violence through life-saving programs and services. At Equity Residential, we are proud to stand with them. 💜

Not only do we care about the amazing residents who live with us, but we also care about the extraordinary communities we have the pleasure of being a part of. Here the Boston market is partnering with Christopher's Haven Meal Service and providing meals to children and families who are in the area undergoing treatment for pediatric cancer. Thank you for leading the way and showing us what it means to truly immerse yourselves within the community. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQx34
