We’ve gathered a snapshot of people, perspectives and events. Enjoy this sampling of our coworkers from around the globe!
We recently participated in the first Maine Space Conference. The conference brought together industry leaders, scientists, students, and educators, to discuss the latest advancements in space exploration and technology. The conference showcased Maine's exciting developments in the NewSpace economy and the Maine Space Complex, emphasizing research, education, and workforce development. We enjoyed meeting students from all over the state who are the future workforce studying to work in this industry, hopefully even one day for us! It was exciting to hear about the incredible work being done in Maine’s space industry and we are proud to play a role in making it a success.
In September, our site celebrated its employees with some mid-day fun! The team enjoyed local food trucks, a fun playlist of tunes and lawn games. The group heard from General Manager, Matt Bernier on the state of the business and recognized the team that volunteers in the Employee Gardens. The gardens have provided the local food bank with over 500 lbs. of fresh produce this season, making a significant impact toward the need for food in our community!!
We've been celebrating the successful landing of OSIRIS-REx which touched down in the Utah desert Sunday September 24th, carrying samples collected from Bennu’s surface. What an incredible accomplishment for space exploration! This ends a 7-year, 3.9-billion-mile journey, but begins a new voyage of discovering what the samples will tell us about the origins of life on Earth. Special congratulations to our team in Maine, some of whom helped develop the sample return capsule heatshield! The heatshield is the most critical piece for achieving the primary goal of bringing material back to Earth as it provides thermal protection. It is engineered to protect the SRC and contents from the 4,000°F temperature resulting from the 27,000 mile per hour atmospheric entry to Earth.
Celebrating a year of Momentum! We made a number of strategic partnerships in 2022 that were geared toward our strategy to diversify and grow our Commercial, Defense & Space and Aftermarket business. Here are some of our top highlights from 2022!
NASA's Artemis 1 will include equipment made at FMI! We’re proud to provide the critical propulsion components for the Orion Launch Abort System to help protect astronauts during launch, one of the most dangerous elements of a space flight mission.
Team Spirit helped students in Biddeford get a strong start to the school year by donating 100 backpacks filled with school supplies for elementary and middle-school students!
We are doing big things here in Maine and are proud of the work we do with NASA!
