When Ben is at home with his two young kids, he’s not only “Dad” – he’s also the resident diaper expert. “I’ve actually taken apart diapers to show my wife all the various components,” he said. “Most people don’t realize how much technology goes into making diapers.” The senior process engineer has spent the last 10 years learning the ins and outs of diaper manufacturing at our plant in Lewistown, Pennsylvania. When he joined First Quality, it was a big change from his previous job working on electrical connectors. While he faced a steep learning curve, he says other team members quickly helped him get up to speed. “First Quality is constantly changing and innovating, so I’m constantly in a state of learning and developing my own skills,” he said. “It’s exciting to be part of a company that continues to grow.”
On a sunny afternoon when other people are at work, you might find our First Quality team member, Cathie, taking a scenic ride through Central Pennsylvania on her motorcycle. She likes that her typical 12-hour shift schedule at First Quality allows her to have days off during the week to enjoy a leisurely ride with her husband. For the past 4 years, Cathie has been a machine operator at our plant in Lewistown, manufacturing diapers. She joined our team because she was looking for a positive workplace that offered growth opportunities. “I always say joining First Quality is the best decision I ever made,” she said. “It’s a team environment where people really care and help each other out, and management is invested in our development.”
When First Quality team member Denise is shopping at major retail chains, you might find her picking up packages of diapers to closely examine the small print. “We put a little code on each package that says if it was made in Lewistown, so I always like to check,” she said. For 14 years, Denise has been manufacturing diapers at our plant in Lewistown, Pennsylvania. With a focus on private label brands, most of the diapers she makes end up in well-known stores across the country. “It’s cool knowing that the products we make are being used by families every day,” said Denise, who is a team lead.
