USS Oregon, second of the Block IV series, continues a whole new level of capability for the Virginia class. Increased stealth, improved surveillance and design changes that increase the component-level lifecycle of the submarine and reduce total ownership cost are hallmarks of this newest attack submarine. Unobtrusive, non-provocative and connected with land, air, sea and space-based assets, the EB-built Oregon is equipped to wage multi-dimensional warfare around the globe

General Dynamics Electric Boat’s videographers and photographers flew alongside Oregon to capture her sea trial this past December. Taking photos of new-construction submarines on sea trials is one of EB’s contractual obligations, and our talented team of photographers and videographers follow via helicopter to capture shots from multiple angles and views. As far as job perks go, that’s a pretty cool one.
Members of General Dynamics Electric Boat’s Hispanic Shipbuilders Association (HSA), Black Engagement Council (BEC), Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Workforce Development Organization, along with the Westerly Education Center, recently had the pleasure to teach and interact with 3rd, 4th and 5th graders at Lillian Feinstein at Sackett Street School in Providence, RI. LStudents participated in exciting STEM activities and were exposed to future career options in shipbuilding manufacturing and engineering. They got to demo welding, experiment with buoyancy and build periscopes. These activities are just a small sample of what EB’s Youth Outreach Programs—Boat for Kids, Boat for Explorers and Boat for Next Gen—have to offer. To learn more about these programs, or to arrange a similar outreach at your school, please reach out to Workforce Development Representatives Heather Lee hlee1@gdeb.com (RI schools) or Willie Barber wbarber@gdeb.com (CT schools).
