Take some time with us this month to celebrate the great profession of social work. National Social Work Month recognizes the dedication and empathy social workers across the country deliver while providing services to children and adults in need. Social workers are advocates, advisors, counselors, and facilitators in schools, clinics, businesses, and government offices. #SocialWorkersAreEssential
Our own Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Richard Feifer, and our Chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, LaShuan Bethea, remind us about the importance for all of our staff and residents to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. In nursing homes, it’s particularly important that frontline workers get vaccinated to protect both themselves and our residents. In an effort to drive vaccination rates, we have been working directly with those who may be hesitant to receive a vaccine, ensuring they understand the vital next step vaccines play in protecting our staff and residents. #CommunityImmunityWV
Dr. Ana Gomes discusses some of the COVID-19 precautions we are taking to protect the health and well-being of our patients during their stay.
In honor of #BlackHistoryMonth, the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee at Genesis is proud to spotlight some of our own leaders. This spotlight will be part of an ongoing series that celebrates the diversity of our team and represents our core values of respect and appreciation. Reggie Brown, the Center Executive Director of our Casa De Oro Center in NM and recently featured in our #Thisisourshot video series, shares his thoughts on what he would advise a young African American interested in obtaining a position in his field. “...if you wish to be in long term care, make sure you have a passion for the elderly. It's a lot of responsibility...What it boils down to is love and passion for older individuals.”
Dr. John Loome, Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs shares what we are doing to keep patients and residents safe even as patients, residents and staff members are getting vaccinated. #communityImmunity #ThisIsOURShot
Stacie Pitts, Nurse Practitioner, at our Pleasant View Center in NH, recalls her own research into the COVID-19 vaccine’s development and approval process, as well as its ability to save lives, prevent illness, and help end the pandemic. #ThisIsOurShot #CommunityImmunity
As you may know, communities of color are disproportionately affected by Covid-19 due to historical inequities in the healthcare system. So far, these same communities have shown greater vaccination hesitancy when compared to the overall population. Meet Reggie Brown, the Center Executive Director at Casa de Oro, who shares personal journey to vaccine acceptance in the hopes that it may help others. #ThisIsOurShot #CommunityImmunity

Why should I get the vaccine now instead of waiting? Dr. JoAnne Reifsnyder encourages nursing home staff and residents to get the vaccine during our pre-scheduled vaccine clinics. #ThisIsOurShot #CommunityImmunity
I've already had COVID-19. Why should I get the vaccine? Dr. Rich Feifer talks about immunity following disease versus immunity from the vaccine. #ThisIsOurShot #CommunityImmunity
