We recently celebrated International Women's Day by thanking all of our hard-working female associates. According to Catalyst Inc., 29% of senior management roles in the United States are held by women. We’re proud to be a workplace that works for women.
Last week was Employee Appreciation Day, and we shared how we're grateful for every single one of our 80,000 associates every day. For… Finding green, wearing green. Teaching, achieving. Opening early, working late. Serving, accepting. Crushing goals, crunching numbers. We appreciate you for all you do.
H&R Block celebrated Black History Month throughout February by saluting the achievements of African Americans, including our own associates, who help shape our company culture. Two of our leaders, Calvin Ricks and Nathaniel Newbill, recently shared their perspectives on journeying to success. Each shared how they’ve benefited from the guidance and support of others and how they both seek to have the same positive impact on making H&R Block a place of success for everyone – a place of belonging. We’re honored that the experiences of our associates reflect the diverse culture that contributes to who we are as a company. As such, we’ll continue to promote education and encourage conversations that cultivate a diverse and inclusive culture.
In February, H&R Block, along with other leading companies who signed the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion Pledge, hosted a “Day of Understanding” designed to drive meaningful conversations and explore our unconscious biases. We recognize the importance of taking the time to connect, talk, and listen so we can better understand each other and explore our blind spots and unconscious biases. The day was part of our larger Belonging@Block efforts which focus on fostering a culture of inclusion. Through these efforts, we will continue to take action to ensure everyone has a deep sense of belonging while using our similarities and our differences to help make each of us and our communities better!
Five new vice presidents — four internal promotions and one new hire — have been named at H&R Block. Learn more about these leaders and the transformation strategy they are helping lead.
Having a network of tax pros and associates as diverse as the clients we serve helps us understand their needs and provide the best service possible. It also helps foster a culture of Belonging@Block and achieve our goal of being a place where every voice is heard and every person feels safe, included and inspired. That’s why we’re extremely proud of two recent recognitions H&R Block has received: • H&R Block earned 100% in the Human Rights Campaign’s 2020 Corporate Equality Index and has been named one of the “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality.” • For the third year in a row, H&R Block has been named one of America’s Best Employers for Diversity by Forbes. Additionally, H&R Block CEO Jeff Jones signed the CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion Pledge, which affirms his commitment to supporting a more inclusive workspace. Not even an ice storm could get in the way of our love for the Kansas City Chiefs. KC Wolf stopped by our headquarters this morning to fire up our associates and celebrate Kansas City hosting its second straight AFC Championship Game.
We are honored to be included on Forbes’ list for “America’s Top Recommended Tax and Accounting Firms” in 2020.
At H&R Block, we believe we can make a difference. That’s why we have launched Make Every Block Better, our community impact program to help foster more conversations and help people and small business owners connect to their community.
“Create a space for people to be vulnerable around you.” At H&R Block, we reward those who look for ways to shake things up and know that great ideas are fostered in spaces that allow for vulnerability. It can be natural to second guess yourself but it’s important to find ways to silence self-doubt to achieve your goals. Recently, our H&R Block Women’s Network hosted an event where women leaders discussed just that. The panel of professional women shared advice for silencing doubts that prevent you from taking risks, whether it is starting your own business, going through a career transition, or taking on a big project. A special thank you to our panelists: Vanessa Zambo, Kate Nielsen, Tammy Broaddus, and Crystal Anderson and moderator: Vanessa Jupe.
