We want to thank all veterans for their sacrifice and service to our country. We are especially proud of our associates and franchisees who are current or former military members. Thank you for everything you’ve done for our country and for our clients at H&R Block. Henry Bloch was serving in the Air Force when he first began talking about starting a business with his brother during World War II. H&R Block would not exist without the military service and culture that shaped our beloved founder and continues to make us better together. We’re passionate about hiring military veterans and spouses as they continue to be valuable assets to our company and community, learn more here: http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMutV

Being headquartered here in Kansas City gives our associates the opportunity to connect with our community in a lot of different ways. This last month, associates from 10 different teams met with local University of Missouri-Kansas City students for our annual Block Day event at UMKC Henry W. Bloch School of Management. H&R Block associates took over a portion of the campus to meet with students, highlight our culture at Block, and share career opportunities.
Today we announced a $2 million investment in KCRise Fund II (http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMyJV), a fund that will help high-growth, early-stage technology companies in the Kansas City area. Startups need and rely on the support of other companies and H&R Block needs to match entrepreneurs’ willingness and capacity to innovate, and efforts like this are critically important to build connections between us. “Our founders, entrepreneurs Henry and Richard Bloch, pioneered the tax industry more than 60 years ago from Main Street, Kansas City. So we know how successful Kansas City startups can become,” said H&R Block CEO Jeff Jones. “We are committed to helping communities everywhere to make every block better. Kansas City’s entrepreneurs – as our community of origin – are particularly important to us.” More info here: http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMyJz
To honor our late founder and his legacy of giving back to Kansas City, we renamed our charity golf tournament to the Henry W. Bloch Memorial Golf Tournament. This year’s beneficiary of our annual golf tournament was Sheffield Place, an organization that assists families in making the difficult journey from homelessness to self-sufficiency. Thanks to our 142 golfers and 28 volunteers, the tournament raised over $29,000 and we collected a truckload of personal care items to help further Sheffield’s cause. Thank you to all the players, donors, volunteers and committee members who helped make this event possible!
We are proud to be named one of America’s Best Employers for New Graduates by Forbes! See the full list here: http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vM0k5
H&R Block tax pros work tirelessly every year to ensure our clients get every credit and deduction they deserve, every time. They explain often-complex tax laws to clients and peers in clear, understandable ways. This past week, we celebrated the very best H&R Block and Block Advisors has to offer with our Henry Bloch Excellence in Client Service Awards. It’s the first time these awards are being given following the passing of Henry in April. These awards honor him and recognize H&R Block associates and franchisees who continue to live his legacy of serving clients and community. All of the hardworking recipients truly live our purpose and go above and beyond to deliver incredible results. The stories about our 24 winners were incredible and included Cheryl from Michigan who comes in early, stays late and is always there for her clients. Lorri from Florida helps to relax her clients, keep them laughing and ultimately bring comfort to a sometimes-stressful event. Marcella from New Jersey tells clients she feels like she grows with them, through the many years they return.
“The top three qualities I look for in an organization are a positive culture/working environment, positive and encouraging leadership, and opportunities to grow alongside the company.” Bryan Betancourt, H&R Block Corporate Analytics and Pricing Intern, recently participated in a panel discussion with several students from the UMKC Henry W. Bloch School of Management. The school co-hosted the event, which focused on the candidate experience and campus recruiting. Betancourt shared he’s had a positive experience in the recruiting process with companies in Kansas City, and H&R Block has been one of them. Thank you for giving and seeking actionable feedback, Bryan! We’re proud to have you on the team this summer. (Photo credit: UMKC Henry W. Bloch School of Management)
