HAECO, a global leader in aircraft engineering solutions and engine services, has launched drone-assisted aircraft inspection trials at its facilities in the USA. This initiative aims to integrate advanced drone technology into the aircraft maintenance process, enhancing inspection efficiency and effectiveness across its American operations. By utilizing autonomous drone technology, HAECO seeks to improve inspection efficiency and safety standards. The initiative developed in partnership with Donecle, is designed to enhance the processes in detecting structural defects, assessing paint quality, and identifying lightning strike damage. The autonomous flight capability allows for comprehensive inspections of hard-to-reach areas, reducing the need for human access at high elevations and minimizing potential safety risks. As HAECO continues these trials, the company remains focused on further innovation through strategic investments in transformative technologies. In addition to drone-assisted aircraft inspections, HAECO is exploring advanced robotic solutions for inspection and logistics. These initiatives aim to enable more insightful data analytics and improved operational efficiency, reinforcing HAECO's commitment to operational excellence as an MRO.
Meet our HAECO Team: Alyssa Pitter Ask Alyssa Pitter to explain her role as a Structures Mechanic at HAECO, and she’ll paint a picture of the hangar floor as an operating room. “I like to think of it as we're aircraft surgeons, right? Because I always wanted to be a doctor, but that was just too much schooling for me,” she laughs. “But I like to think of it kind of similar, we operate on the airplane, so that's kind of one of my favorite things about it…it might seem in insignificant, but it does matter at the end of the day.” As a Structures Mechanic, Alyssa inspects, modifies, and repairs parts of the airframe structure. Her team plays an integral part in the maintenance process, as structures mechanics open and close the aircraft. Alyssa’s mother and grandfather both had careers in aviation, and she explains the hands-on work drew her to aircraft maintenance. She recently obtained her Repairman Certificate, and is now planning to get her A&P License, but Alyssa says she has lofty goals for her career at HAECO. “I kind of shoot for the stars, so I'd like to run the place one day. I guess overseeing the operations and kind of organizing things in a better way that suits the mechanics,” she said. Outside of work, Alyssa enjoys traveling. She recently took a hiking trip to Yosemite National Park in California and plans to travel to England later this summer. Alyssa’s passions for aviation and travel met in March when she was invited to attend the Women
Meet our HAECO team: Justin Avery For Justin Avery, every shift as an A&P Lead Mechanic starts with a steadfast commitment to the flying public. “Safety in flight. I take pride in knowing that people fly in the aircraft and that I sign my name on it,” he said when asked what being an Aircraft Maintenance Technician means to him. “I know it's proper, I know it's correct.” His passion for aviation began long before Justin’s three-year career at HAECO, and spans several generations of his family, including his father and grandfather. After serving in the Navy, Justin received his A&P license and joined HAECO. In his role as a Lead Mechanic at the HAECO Americas headquarters in Greensboro, Justin is responsible for coordinating his team’s daily aircraft maintenance priorities and organizing their tasks, as well as clearly communicating with the following shift leaders. He aims to advance his career by learning and developing his skills with the goal of a higher position at HAECO. When asked what advice he would offer the next generation of technicians, he stressed the importance of continued education. “Show up every day with the intention to learn. Don't stand around and ask for people. Always just show up every day to work, hungry to learn. The more you learn, the faster you'll move up,” he said. “Just be motivated when you come in.”
