STAMFORD ADVOCATE - When local wildlife nibbles from bird feeders in the garden of Dolan Middle School, a friendly face will be staring back at them. Seventh graders at the school used stickers to put funny faces and flowers on old detergent bottles to transform them into containers for birdseed. The activity was meant to teach students about sustainability and how reusing products can help the planet. “We live better when you recycle,” said Alex Lazu, 12, as her group added a sticker with yellow glasses onto their detergent bottle. The program was put on by Henkel Corp., the maker of All laundry detergent, Snuggle fabric softener and other consumer goods products that moved its North American headquarters to Stamford last year. Rob Anson, Henkel’s director of sales and sustainability, said the company created the ambassador program with Stamford Public Schools to teach students about recycling and reusing the containers in which their products are sold. “Partnering with a company like Henkel is a great opportunity to spread a message of sustainability,” said assistant super.
