We’re celebrating the 1st anniversary of Project Baby Bear, a pilot program that has made rapid whole genome sequencing available to Medi-Cal babies at 5 hospitals across California. To date, more than 100 infants have been sequenced and evidence is growing that WGS is helping intensive care physicians tailor treatment, curtailing the diagnostic odyssey, reducing hospital stays and saving medical costs. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMeaQ
"This week Illumina HQ is displaying the rainbow flag in support of PRIDE week in San Diego. This is a visible display of Illumina’s support for an open and respectful workplace, and I am personally proud to work for a company that values and embraces diversity. We celebrate PRIDE and fly the rainbow flag because there is much work to do. In some states it is still legal to discriminate against gay individuals; and in some countries, members of the LGBTQ community cannot live openly for fear of their very lives." - Karen Gutekunst VP, Regulatory Affairs”

Since January 2019, Vargas has been mentoring Corina Lard, a first-generation college student majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
