Kent has been awarded the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) contract for the Khafji Desalter and Water Treatment Plant Upgrade (UDWT) Project by Al-Khafji Joint Operations (KJO). Delivered through close collaboration between our KSA and UK teams, this project will see around 150 Kent engineers design new desalter facilities and upgrade existing water treatment plants at Al-Khafji. By bringing together our global expertise and local knowledge, we’ll help KJO enhance operational efficiency while supporting a lower-impact energy future. The project will enable the continued production of 300,000 barrels per day of sweet crude, improving reliability, capacity, and environmental performance, a step forward in building energy solutions that balance progress with responsibility. In process safety, there are multiple areas that must work in tandem to ensure minimal risk in day-to-day operations. In his latest article, Conor Crowley reflects on the evolving role in modern operations. Using the familiar ritual of a HAZOP as his starting point, Conor explores how engineering insight, operational experience, and the silent record of plant data each tell a part of the safety story.
