Just before the school year ended, the officers of the Midlothian High School Pantherettes gave a parting gift to women's imaging services at Methodist Midlothian — a check for $12,000! Methodist Richardson's beloved Chief Nursing Officer Irene Strejc was honored with a grand celebration to cap off her 50-year nursing career. She's been the hospital's CNO for the last 12 years and has been helping Methodist Richardson achieve Magnet® and Pathway to Excellence® designations! This news will certainly save lives. Methodist Dallas now has a new treatment for the hospital's sickest heart and lung patients. It's called extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, or ECMO, and it will help support critically ill patients who would not otherwise survive, including those who don't respond to ventilators. Our heart and lung team is very excited about the future of this lifesaving technology!
Experts have observed another distressing side effect of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are proud of the Methodist Dallas laboratory services team. They donated more than $500 to support a group of New York City doctors and volunteers who are providing medical aid to Ukrainian refugees. They also donated medical supplies like bandages, gauze, antibiotic ointments, diapers, and other essential items. The medical camp is on the Ukrainian border in Przemyśi, Poland, and volunteers there are working with the international relief organization Samaritan's Purse. Our prayers are with them.
It’s official! The new Methodist Richardson Heart and Vascular Center is open. The outpatient clinic, staffed with specialists in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, and vascular surgery, is next door to the hospital. President Ken Hutchenrider Jr. says, "The launch of this new clinic makes high-quality, innovative cardiology services accessible in one convenient location." Our heart's in it!
