Meet Sara. She wants to fly. Inspired by the Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASP) from World War II, she started training to be a commercial airline pilot following a private flying lesson in high school. It was following her first college engineering class that she, "...knew flying spacecraft would be so much more fun!" After graduating from MIT with her Master's degree, Sara joined JPL. During her 15 years at the Lab, she says, "I love the people. I love their creativity both in the science-driven art installations all around the Lab and the inventive ways they solve some of the hardest engineering challenges in the solar system. It is inspiring." As a Technical Group Supervisor, she loves being able to tell a story through the data and analysis and sharing it with her team and why it matters. Sara looks forward to seeing more women professionals and students in STEM. She encourages them with this advice, "Teach yourself something; I’ve had to do it numerous times throughout my career and that has given me an advantage." #WomensHistoryMonth
Meet Janis. She loves math and science. She focused her career on aerospace because, "...I enjoyed the beauty and predictability of the laws of physics as applied to space exploration," she says. As the Project Manager for Europa Clipper, she shares her favorite thing about, "I enjoy the team camaraderie as we work together for the common goal of developing a first-of-a-kind mission to explore some aspect of our solar system." Janis is a member of the Advisory Council for Women (ACW), a JPL employee resource group. She says, "I enjoyed getting to know other technical women and advocating for hiring more female technical engineers and scientists at JPL. Groups like ACW are important to provide a peer group and advocacy for women in what is still mostly a male-dominated field." Inspired by women like Katherine Johnson, she is encouraged by more female professionals and students in STEM fields than during her early career she says, "I would encourage them to have the self-confidence that they will excel in any job that they choose to pursue." #WomensHistoryMonth

It was a full house on Lab today for the #Mars2020 rover naming event! Over 28,000 possible names were submitted from K-12 across the United States and territory. JPL employees have been anticipating this day for years and we are thrilled to celebrate with them today! (Visit @nasajplcareers on Facebook and Instagram to see their reaction.) #LifeatJPL
Meet Nagin. She's dreamed of working at JPL since she was 14. Her favorite thing about JPL is she loves coming into work and seeing images from distant worlds no one has seen before, "Every day is still as much fun as when I got here. It’s simple. What we do, we do for all humankind in peace. How could it get better than that?" As a Systems Engineer, she serves as the Mars 2020 Deputy Lead for the Engineering Operations Team. "I knew I needed to be an engineer in order to be part of these amazing teams of explorers...I wanted to be part of robotic exploration because it is the robots that see new worlds for the first time. Before we send people, we send robots," said Nagin. Nagin dedicates her time to inspire and support the aspirations of others. She shares these words of encouragement, "Don’t let anyone tell you cannot do something. We need all the talent of the planet to solve our issues, not just 50%. It’s not about gender. It’s about your brain." #WomensHistoryMonth
Meet Tracy. Her job is to literally "go where no one has gone before."
ICYMI! Meet Charles. Think of him as a JPL guardian. He focuses on safety and security to ensure the success of JPL's missions. Charles' career began as a night job for an aerospace company that evolved over the following 20 years before coming to the Lab in 2008. Since then, he describes his favorite thing about JPL as his colleagues and mentors. Charles pays it forward by helping others develop their careers. He finds mentoring others gratifying and hopes "...it will contribute to my legacy when it’s all said and done." Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, Charles encourages others to, "Stay devoted to your dreams." #BlackHistoryMonth
ICYMI! Meet Dr. Osazonamen or “Osa.” Ask her what she does at JPL and it might sound like magic! Osa is working to discover how water can be extracted from planetary soils using microwave and radiofrequency radiation. After visiting JPL with her Astrobiology group as a graduate student at the University of Washington, she met the scientist who is now her postdoctoral advisor. Her favorite thing about JPL is the collaborative nature of the Lab. Osa has always been excited about human space exploration which is why she focused her doctoral work on ISRU (in-situ resource utilization) techniques. “The challenging and exciting aspect of my work is trying to figure out how water extraction techniques can be sustainable in extreme environments like the Moon or Mars,” she explains. Osa is inspired by Mae Jemison, whom she describes, “She’s a triple threat (engineer, physician, AND an astronaut) and an inspiration to so many.” #BlackHistoryMonth
ICYMI! Meet Charles. Ask him what his favorite thing is about JPL and he’ll say, “The people.” After a career with a private practice where he consulted, designed and implemented supplier development programs, he joined JPL as the Manager of the Small Business Programs Office. At JPL, Charles interacts with suppliers and end-users. He’s focused on problem-solving and loves helping his team win. Charles dedicates his time outside of the Lab to helping others win by supporting non-profits focused on STEM education for Black and other minority students. Inspired by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, recognized as the founder of Black History, Charles encourages Black students to pursue STEM, “Be confident, you can do it! Ask for lots of help. Seek advice from more experienced counterparts.” #BlackHistoryMonth
