Meet Brandon, a previous #JPLIntern who talked his North Carolina A&T State University professors into letting him finish his master's degree remotely in hopes of landing a full-time role at JPL. In 2016, Brandon joined the cybersecurity team as a computer security engineer. “I always had a fascination with NASA since I can remember. I’m a country boy at heart. This year was the third year we've collaborated with the Rose Bowl Stadium's "Americafest" Fourth of July celebration! 🇺🇸 Our Mars InSight Roadshow team featured marsquake demonstrations where both kids and adults could jump and see seismometer readings on a screen — simulating how InSight’s seismometer, SEIS, will work on the martian surface. #MarsInsight
Meet Elio, a NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory systems engineer who first interned in January 2016. Elio was born in Ecuador, spent his childhood in Puerto Rico, completed high school in New York, and went to college in Michigan. Elio studied mechanical engineering with an electrical engineering minor and was contemplating a master’s in systems engineering when he first came to JPL. He became involved in conducting electrical tests and quickly discovered how much he still had to learn. His mentors at the University of Michigan encouraged him to take systems engineering classes, and his experience at JPL helped him understand why. “Those eight months reassured me that the classes I was going to take were going to be relevant for work at JPL, which is the premier location for systems engineering.” Elio came back last spring and became a JPL employee in September. #JPLCareers

Meet Erin, who landed her first internship at JPL in 2013 after her junior year at University of California, Berkeley! Having been at JPL as a junior visiting researcher and a full-time intern, Erin is hoping for a postdoctoral role at JPL after completing her Ph.D. program at University of California, Los Angeles next year. “I’ve watched the summer program grow over the past six summers. When I first came it was so much smaller than it is now, and just over the past six years it’s really exploded. I think that’s so great, mostly because I know my experience, and my life wouldn’t have been the same without it.”

Three JPL engineers and a Caltech planetary scientist worked together to create a space-themed mural highlighting JPL missions at Pasadena's 26th Annual Chalk Festival last weekend. The festival was officially named the largest street painting festival by Guinness World Records in 2010, welcoming more than 600 artists to participate.
