We’re proud to share that our New Communities SuperStars recently participated in the Special Olympics, an inspiring event that truly reflects the heart of our mission: to create supportive communities and deliver innovative services for seniors and people with disabilities. Our SuperStars trained for months in preparation for this incredible day, demonstrating dedication, teamwork, and community spirit every step of the way. Following the event, athletes and supporters came together to celebrate with a festive BBQ and a Candy Land-themed dance, a joyful way to end a day filled with pride, connection, and fun. Events like these remind us why we do what we do. At New Communities, we believe everyone deserves the chance to shine and thanks to the passion of our team, that belief continues to come to life every day.
A few weeks ago, clients from New Communities’ Madison Ventures Day Program made a difference by volunteering in Earth Day clean-up efforts around Farmington. We’ve been proud to be part of this initiative for the past five years! In addition to giving back to our local community, clients enjoyed learning about the origins of Earth Day and how it's now recognized in over 193 countries by more than a billion people. Talk about being part of something big! At New Communities, we believe that caring for others includes caring for the world we all share. We’re grateful for these meaningful, hands-on experiences that bring learning, connection, and purpose together.
Last month, our employees and clients came together in Bangor to support and celebrate the incredible athletes at the Special Olympics. This event was more than just a day of competition. It was a powerful reminder of the values that define our culture: inclusion, teamwork, and community. At New Communities, we believe in making a meaningful impact both inside and outside the workplace. Supporting the Special Olympics aligns with our commitment to fostering an environment where everyone is empowered to achieve their best. We are proud to stand alongside these inspiring athletes and grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a memorable event.
At New Communities, we create supportive communities and deliver innovative services for seniors and people with disabilities. We also believe in supporting our communities beyond the workplace. Our Keep Warm Project helps ensure that individuals in Madison and Skowhegan who face challenges accessing winter essentials have what they need to stay warm. This initiative is more than just about warmth—it’s about compassion, connection, and dignity. Our employees and residents come together to prepare and distribute these bags, creating a sense of belonging and hope for those in need. Each bag includes a handwritten note from our team, reinforcing our mission of kindness and community support.

We’re thrilled to share that Shikara McAlister, Team Leader at New Communities, has been recognized with the prestigious 2024 MACSP Direct Service Professional Award. Shikara’s journey with New Communities began in January 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic transformed the world. As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), she demonstrated herunwavering dedication to the individuals we support. Her exceptional performance quickly earned her a promotion to DSP-II, where she managed the medication room and coordinated resident medical appointments. But Shikara’s drive to make a difference didn’t stop there. Over a year and a half ago, she embraced the opportunity to become a Team Leader at one of our programs in Norway, ME. Though new to management, Shikara took on her leadership role with enthusiasm and determination, quickly bringing stability to a program that had faced staffing challenges. Her impact has been profound. Congratulations, Shikara, on this well-deserved recognition! Your passion and dedication exemplify the best of New Communities, and we are so proud to have you on our team.
