Happy International Women's Day!
We're excited to be at New England Institute of Technology this morning meeting students and graduates - and telling them about all the exciting career opportunities at Ocean State Job Lot! If you're here, stop by our table to meet Corporate Recruiter Colleen Coffey and Director of IT Jeff Mehrmanesh.
We feel a strong sense of gratitude to our veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice. To express our appreciation, we've partnered with the YMCA of Greater Providence to provide free one-year memberships for veterans in need and their families. Pictured below are Steven G. O’Donnell, CEO, YMCA of Greater Providence and David Sarlitto, Executive Director, Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation at the program's kickoff event. Representatives from other businesses that are joining this effort were in attendance to show their support.
For more than 15 years we've proudly supported the University of Rhode Island's free seed program. This year the program's reach extends beyond RI, with a portion of the 200,000 donated seed packets benefiting residents of Puerto Rico who are still recovering from Hurricane Maria.
Our Leadership & Organizational Development team is working with OSJL managers and associates to help everyone take a deep breath and make the most of the performance review process. If associates and managers are communicating often, performance reviews shouldn't cause angst! Forbes Coaches Council offers some helpful tips for leading a productive review.
We're wishing Anicel Paulino (right) all the best as she completes her training with us. Anicel joined our team through Year Up, a workforce development program that provides young adults with the skills, experience and support to empower them to reach their potential. For the past six months, Anicel has been a member of our Organizational and Leadership Development team, working closely with colleagues like Megan Staniszewski (left). Best wishes, Anicel!
We're following the voyage of Massachusetts Maritime Academy cadets aboard the TS Kennedy. Their travels include a supply drop to Haiti, and thanks to the cadets' blog, we'll know when Job Lot's donation of protein powder arrives on the island. Follow the voyage with us!
Our Chief HR Officer Bob Selle shares his thoughts on employee well-being:
We have wonderful new neighbors in Seabrook, NH, now that Cardi's Furniture has opened a store next door! We teamed up with Cardi's to make a donation to a swim team that's near and dear to us, and presented the gift at Cardi's grand opening celebration.
This group of Job Lot associates from our corporate office and distribution center completed a Spanish as a second language course! Special thanks to Marco Enriquez-Bernau from the Community College of Rhode Island for being a wonderful instructor. ¡Felicitaciones!
