#Movember: Entering the "Golden Years," Mark Regan shares his personal journey in navigating men's health. From a carefree first 50 years with just $2.00 cheater glasses to the introduction of bifocals, daily pills, and occasional procedures like colonoscopies, the transition wasn't without its challenges. But it prompted a profound realization of the importance of prioritizing well-being. At the age of 50, Mark's perspective on health shifted. Routine screenings and annual physicals became a non-negotiable, with his doctor prescribing medications and advocating for weight loss, healthier eating, and regular exercise. The irony of receiving such advice from a doctor who smoked a pack a day wasn't lost on him. With nearly three decades of experience as an EMT, Mark witnessed firsthand the consequences of neglecting health and ignoring warning signs. The common approach among men to "rub some dirt on it" proved inadequate regarding potential health issues. Heart attacks, even in younger individuals, left a lasting impression and prompted deep reflection on personal health. Mark's message to his fellow men is clear: heed the signs, don't dismiss warning signals, and take a proactive stance on health. Regular checkups, annual physicals, prostate exams, colonoscopies – these are not just medical recommendations but crucial steps in safeguarding one's well-being.

Mark’s father, a high school student at WWII’s onset, later endured the horrors of being a POW during the Battle of the Bulge. His uncle, a brick mason by trade, served as a Military Police Officer in the Pacific, forever impacted by his experiences. Mark’s shop teacher, who left his studies to enlist, faced life-altering injuries and the realities of combat. Their stories, marked by bravery and resilience, remind us of the countless sacrifices made for our freedoms.
