Last week, Related Affordable, Related Affordable Foundation, national nonprofit partner KABOOM! and Somers Point city council members celebrated the opening of two new playgrounds at Somers Point Apartments, an affordable community which recently completed renovation in New Jersey. During the week of April 15, more than 200 volunteers from Related, local community members and KABOOM! participated in the playground construction and enhanced features, including benches, picnic tables, and planter boxes.

It was a week like no other! Last week Maintenance Supervisors from around the Central Region met in Chicago for the first-ever Affordable Maintenance Summit. From Minnesota to Texas and all the states in between, Maintenance Supervisors were able to meet one another in–person to engage in learning seminars, network with fellow supervisors, and hear from a range of speakers. The event was designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience for the participants, with seminars covering topics such as the characteristics of a successful maintenance supervisor, a look into affordable housing policies, and strategies for optimizing maintenance operations. The seminars were led by experienced professionals, including subject matter experts from within RMC. In addition to the learning sessions, the summit also provided networking opportunities for participants to interact and connect with one another. The conference allowed for Maintenance Supervisors to share their experiences, exchange ideas, and collaborate on solutions to common challenges.
Last Wednesday, Related hosted several high school students from Bronx Design And Construction Academy, as part of Career Discovery Week, organized by Partnership for New York City and NYC Department of Education. From an engaging panel discussion with our Early Career Network colleagues to a tour of Edge NYC, our guests had a memorable day at 30 Hudson Yards!
Recently, Related Midwest and 548 Enterprise broke ground on North Lawndale’s 21-acre Roosevelt & Kostner development in collaboration with the City of Chicago. The development will include two 181,760-square-foot industrial warehouses for freight and logistics, two 5,000-square-foot innovation centers and a 3+ acre public park for community use. The innovation centers will maximize opportunities for neighborhood groups to host community meetings and events as well as workforce development programs.
Related CEO Jeff Blau shared more details on the plan for a high-end casino and resort at Hudson Yards on Bloomberg Markets. In partnership with Wynn Resorts, Related plans to develop 1,500 hotel rooms, restaurants, retail and more in the Western Yards, which will contribute significant economic impact to the city and state. Related will also honor its community commitment by building additional affordable housing and a new school in the neighborhood. https://lnkd.in/e8avynUT
