After sending three truckloads of Prairie Fresh® pork to support Operation BBQ Relief’s (OBR) deployment in Port Charlotte, Fla., Prairie Fresh volunteers cleaned and organized the OBR warehouse in Peculiar, Mo., this past week. Fifteen employees from Seaboard Foods, a producer of Prairie Fresh pork, organized the warehouse and four storage containers filled with equipment and supplies to restock for future OBR deployments.
Seaboard Foods will begin accepting applications from high school seniors beginning Nov. 1, 2022, for $1,000 scholarships, totaling $65,000. Forty, $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors from community high schools and an additional 25, $1,000 scholarships to children of Seaboard Foods’ employees.
Seaboard Foods celebrated National Pork Month by co-sponsoring the 4B FEST, Bacon, BBQ, Brews and Blues Festival, at the Pub on the Bricks in Guymon, Okla. It’s an annual event held the first Saturday in October.
At the American Royal World Series of Barbecue Invitational and Open Contests, the rib categories were presented by Prairie Fresh this year. Additionally, Prairie Fresh raised $13,125 at the world's largest sanctioned barbecue contest to support Operation BBQ Relief's Hurricane Ian deployment.
With the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to grow twice as quickly as other industries, Seaboard Foods contributed $38,300 to several rural high schools where it operates to fund industrial arts programs and equipment. Several of the donations were made in partnership with CoBank’s Sharing Success Program which funds community and educational efforts in rural America.
Seaboard Foods, in partnership with the Oklahoma Pork Council and the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, has donated 2,150 pounds of pork to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma to raise awareness of Hunger Action Month. The donation will provide more than 11,000 servings of ham.
Seaboard Foods donated $5,000 to provide backpacks to some of the more than 1,000 students who attended the health fair hosted by the Texas County Health Improvement Organization last month. They were treated to free food, arts and crafts, games, music and giveaways.
