Throughout the pandemic healthcare workers have faced incredible odds and preserved through it all. Behind the scenes, many continued fighting and organizing to protect their communities, and in Detroit – and nationwide – EMS workers were a huge part of these efforts. Dr. Robert Dunne, Assistant Medical Director of Emergency Medicine at Ascension St. John Hospital, worked to help coordinate testing and vaccination throughout the past year and a half and credits his EMS partners with much of the city’s success. “I’ve been consistently impressed every day with EMS’s ability to be flexible, be energetic and provide expertise sometimes that a lot of people just didn’t know they had, and that has been amazing,” says Dr. Dunne, who hopes that one positive takeaway from the pandemic can be more recognition for the amazing and vital work emergency medicine service workers do day in and day out. Join us in again thanking the EMS workforce for their care and service as we close out National EMS Week!
