How Miriam became a model for safety and excellence 20 years running Back in 2001, Miriam sent her application to UPS, joining as a part-time package loader in Dallas right after graduating school. Before she knew it, she was signing her offer letter and accepting a promotion to full-time supervisor. In her own words: “As soon as I got to UPS, they kept offering me more paths forward. I remember thinking to myself, ‘I’m really getting this American dream.’” Today, Miriam is an on-road manager helping others in their pursuit of excellence. She wanted a career that would allow her to balance continuing her education. With a bit of hard work, she hit milestone after milestone, even returning to school with a little help from UPS. “UPS paid for me to go to school, to enroll back into community college.” The UPS Earn & Learn Program is a valuable resource for many people just like Miriam, opening doors to new opportunities. And did you know UPS offers industry-leading training along with on-the-job learning programs? “Not only has UPS helped with my outside education, they also offered their own in-house classes which taught me how to succeed in management.” Since completing driver training school in 2014, Miriam has trained over a hundred UPSers in safe driving, managing dozens more at her local facility. "I care about everyone who works here," said Miriam. "Every single one of our training methods is to keep you safe."

How one father turned UPS into a family tradition! Ask around, and you’ll find out automotive mechanic Clinton is a role model to all. With almost 23 years of service at UPS, his strong work ethic has helped him provide for his family. And today, five of his seven children have built UPS careers of their own. Clinton’s family emigrated from Jamaica to the U.S. in search of a better life. Passionate about education, his mother encouraged him to either go to college or take up a trade. This gentle push led Clinton to seek an automotive certificate. Clinton would first encounter UPS in 2000 after hearing about an automotive mechanic job opening from his brother-in-law, who also worked at UPS. The rest is history. Fast forward to now: As his children took an interest in working at UPS, Clinton made sure they were serious about the commitment. “You have to plant the seeds and grow roots,” Clinton said. “The times we are living in are not easy; you can’t run from job to job.” Clinton’s sons Robert, CJ Jr., Kadeem and Brandon are UPS drivers in South Florida. His daughter, Climari, is a part-time supervisor in nearby Miami. Automotive manager Roberto says he looks to the seasoned mechanic to mentor others. “He’s a wealth of knowledge and an anchor to our operation,” Roberto said. Today, Clinton most enjoys spending time with his grandchildren. “Your blessing from God is your kids,” he said with pride. “I would not change anything in my life.”

Born a Triplet, He Was Always Part of a Team. That’s Why UPS Was a Perfect Fit John Coliton wasn’t thinking of a career when a UPS recruiter visited Henry Ford College in 1984 - he just needed a job. He showed up in a suit – and was still wearing it when the recruiter sent him to the hub that night. “They wanted me to work that night,” he said. “I changed into work clothes and came back and started loading trucks. It’s been a great career ever since.” Coliton worked his way up from package loader to driver to UPS’s Detroit operations; to HR Director in Virginia, Chicago and San Francisco. He’s retiring as Global Director of HR Compliance and Employee Relations, responsible for 528,000 employees around the world. “It’s fulfilling,” he said. “People come to you with issues and you help resolve them. It feels amazing that UPS has the faith in me to put the right policies in place.” Coliton was born in Detroit in '64 as a triplet, with a sister two years older. He and wife have four grown children. “I’ve always had a team around me,” he said. “I think that’s why UPS was the perfect fit.
