Dierks City Pond, which is on Weyerhaeuser land less than a mile from downtown Dierks, Arkansas, is now officially open to the public thanks to a new 10-year agreement with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. “We’re committed to working in partnership with the state to make Dierks City Pond a public treasure,” says Walt Smith, Cossatot Timberlands area manager. “We want it to be a special place for the community.” Learn more about this agreement, and what it means for the local community. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #community
Travis Perry is a competitor. In high school he was a wrestler, competing in an individual sport where strategy counts as much as strength, and he’s always up for a challenge — including when he decided to shift to sales after starting his career as a forester. “I love forestry; I have a true passion for it,” says Travis, who is now an Engineered Wood Products territory manager, as well as interim Gulf South region manager. “But I’m also a competitive person, so I wanted to test myself in a high-performing sales environment. Shifting careers from forestry to sales gave me an opportunity to broaden my horizons and compete while still staying with the company.” #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #careeradvancement

At #COP28, we shared our vision for building a trusted carbon market and reiterated our commitment to developing only the highest-quality forest carbon projects. We’re putting those words into action and recently announced the sale of nearly 32,000 credits from our first project in Maine. Learn more about our experience and takeaways from COP28 and how sustainable forestry and sustainable wood products provide a critical, immediate solution to address climate change. #climateaction
We’re proud partners of American Forests and their Tree Equity program, which aims to address disparities in tree canopy cover in urban neighborhoods and other smaller communities. Late last year, members of our Winnfield and Ruston Timberlands, Raw Materials, Natchitoches LVL and Public Affairs teams joined students from Lakeview High School and American Forests staff to plant trees at Ben Johnson Park in Natchitoches, La. In this post by the Washington Forest Protection Association, our own Megan Marleau, Western Regeneration Leader, reflects on how she's grown her career at Weyerhaeuser and how more and more women are joining and shaping the future of forestry. “It can be hard to be the first person like yourself to jump into a role or field, but we are seeing an increasing number of opportunities — and in a wide range of positions, specialties and job levels — where women are stepping up and growing our representation and influence in the industry.” Read about Megan's experiences, along with those of other women in the field, in the Seattle Times: https://www.seattletimes.com/sponsored/women-help-drive-forestry-industry-forward/
Sustainable working forests have many benefits, including providing long-term storage of carbon through the wood products created from them. Wood products are also fully renewable and far more climate-friendly than other building materials, such as concrete and steel. #ForestCarbonDecoded
Giving back to our communities has been a fundamental part of our company culture since we were founded nearly 125 years ago, and we're proud to invest $1 million in Zwolle, La., and the northwest Louisiana region as part of our new THRIVE program. We're looking forward to working closely with local leaders and other stakeholders to make sure the resources we're providing make a positive impact for these communities. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay
When Patrick Coccaro, a planning and roads forester in our Mississippi-Louisiana Timberlands, learned a violent tornado had devastated Rolling Fork, Mississippi, he immediately got in his truck and drove two hours to get there. Patrick had grown up right next to Rolling Fork and wanted to help with response and recovery efforts, and he was incredibly grateful when other team members volunteered to join him over the next couple weeks. "I was really proud we were there when they needed us," Patrick says. “Nobody who participated had to be there. They didn’t know anyone in Rolling Fork, but they came anyway. It strengthened my relationship with my coworkers and made me really grateful to be a part of this team.” #TheWeyerhaeuserWay
From panel discussions to project announcements, Weyerhaeuser was well represented at #ClimateWeekNYC last month. Our purpose was clear: to demonstrate how sustainably managed working forests provide nature-based solutions to climate change -- right now, and at a scale to make a meaningful difference in removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
