There is sick pay, but you are penalized on a points system for using them. Too many points in a time period and you are terminated.

For hourly employees, individual sick days come at an expense of "points" which can impact your yearly rating (which can impact being able to get a better paying job). For salaried, there is a stigma associated with taking sick days. Different policy surrounds short term and long term disability, and FMLA.
