Yes they give you stock as a part of benefits package

They give you shares, and you can invest with your 401k

ridiculously backloaded vesting schedule ....

Only company that I've worked at that will give you the company stocks as a part of your offer.

People that don't get RSUs are hourlies. All salaried employees will receive RSUs upon hire that vest over 4 years. Bonuses yearly usually comprise of 2 year vested RSUs in order to keep the employee interested in the company rather than jumping ship
