Microsoft health benefits at one point were the gold standard by which others were measured and are still much better than average. Just focused on the Health Insurance the overall Microsoft plan is still better than average but the actual coverage and plan terms have gone the way of the rest of the industry, reduce the benefits and share the costs. Out of pocket expenses are way up compared to the plans offered just 2 or 3 years ago. Prescription coverage is down. Though on the good side Microsoft currently provides a generous FSA contribution annually which should cover most family deductibles and typical out of pocket expenses, and if you are healthy get to keep it in your HSA for future medical expenses. With the current Heath plan you have to more actively manage your health care transactions and spend time managing compared to the past but the process makes you more aware of the actual costs other than just getting a statement in the mail of what was paid.

You have to rely heavily on your HSA or have money to cover the large deductible each year.

Down from "5 Stars" -- It was once a Cadillac plan, offering 100% employer-paid premiums and no copays or deductibles. New plan has high deductible and copays.

Some folks didn't like the change to an HSA because it meant potential out of pocket expenses. However, compared to the health coverage anywhere else I've worked, the one at Microsoft is very comprehensive with little out of pocket expenses.

You either get co-pay with every visit or pretty big deductible, on the pro side: Microsoft contribute to your HSA account.

You can choose your own doctor and can also go directly to a specialist if need be without have to request a referral from your primary physician.

Used to be fantastic. Now, with the HSA solution, not so great, but still pretty good.

Overall a great plan, but dental insurance coverage is low (though probably comparable to the rest of the industry).
