15 years in the Army, never paid a dollar for any of my medical care- including surgeries, physical therapy, mental health, etc. Even maternal care and birth costs for my wife and kid only added up to a few hundred dollars. With Tricare Select, active duty can opt for dependents to be able to choose in-network providers off base outside of the military medical system, which worked great for my family.
