It’s really unfortunate this company has a long way to go to be professional, as what they are trying to accomplish is admiral.
My initial phone interview was lack luster, and it was obvious they had no understanding of the role.
Went on to meet with the hiring, who turned out to be great. Very passionate, creative, smart, personable, but seemed a bit overwhelmed and not quite sure what the team needed. This person was looking for 2 marketers, one with B2B experience and one with B2C experience. Based on my background, we agreed I was best for the B2C role.
I was invited back to interview with 3 other folks on the team, plus, meeting with the hiring manager in person (this was pre-COVID). I took time off work to go on-site, only to find out that two of the people I was going to meet with were video conference interviews, and the hiring manager was no longer available. In other words, I met with one person face to face, two via video, and I would not meet my potential boss. Frustrating to say the least.
It gets worse. During my interviewing, I was asked a lot about B2B, and comments were made about my lack of B2B experience. I was so caught off guard, as this was not the role I agreed to move forward with, nor was I interested in it. At the end of the interviews, I asked about it. The response received was, “oh, yes, we changed the JD to be B2B”. WHAT? They literally changed the scope of the job in the middle of the hiring process and never told me.
