I knew a couple of people who worked there. They introduced me to a member of the team and his manager. The team member was really nice, sat me in an office and informally went over his role and asked me questions. We had a great conversation. It lasted an hour. I was interested in learning more about the role, and he was interested in shooting me over to his manager. So it went well.
I set up a time to speak to the manager after he reached out via e-mail. We set up a call, because it was difficult for me to get out of work again to see them. The call was an hour. It was pretty informal, but this time more questions were directed towards my style of thinking, problem-solving, and communicating with clients. Again, it went well. I enjoyed speaking with him immensely and he said he was very interested in moving forward. He said he would be traveling and would reach out in a week or so with directives from HR on the next steps.
I e-mailed him because I hadn't heard fro him in a couple of weeks. I got no reply. I spoke to my friend the week after. My friend contacted him, he said he would reach out later that day. He didn't contact me, so I contacted my friend to let him know. A week passed and I still got no contact.
TLDR: I was slated to move into the next rounds (and told so by the hiring manager), yet he went radio silent. Even contacting friends on the inside didn't change anything. He told them he would reach out and didn't reach out. In the end, it may have been a blessing in disguise because I did have a flaky hiring manager for a past job who turned out to be a nightmare to work for.
