I should have asked who would be present at the interview instead of taking the email verbatium. Group interview consisted of hiring manager and 2 of his direct reports. It was an informational interview trying to see if your skill sets aligned with the needs of the job. The two directs never asked a question and seemed bored. The hiring manager was outgoing and was candid in his remarks about the job and it's requirements. There is a filter system in the HR function, those resumes go forward that meet criteria. Inside information was that there was 129 applicants this management postion. Over 30 met requriements. Hiring manager and committee select next step for the interview. I came with a written plan, dont'. This is not a visionary group, they want fit for the position. Listen and provide support to the hiring managers needs. I did not make the second round as my product background was not as strong as the person they hired.
