This review pertains to an introductory call between a recruiter and myself. I applied to a generic SWE position with Articulate and was contacted for an interview. The call started great with a short description of Articulate and their accomplishments which were rather impressive. After introductions, the conversation started with the recruiter stating that my experience "seems" a bit different than "regular" Software Engineers as I had less than 2 years of experience at the time of applying, however, the recruiter wanted to proceed with at least meeting me because my resume states I am self-taught and that the recruiter stated, "self-taught engineers are curious and usually produce better quality results than engineers with degrees". The initial statement set the negative tone for the rest of the call which mainly compromised of generic "rate your experience with X technology". There were numerous questions to which my answers were followed up with borderline accusatory statements implying I clearly did not have the skills Articulate was searching for. I made an attempt to end the screening call as the tone of the call was not polite or comfortable from my perspective to which the recruiter opted to add some more context in regards to me clearly not being a good fit at the time as I lacked the back end experience they were searching for and again stated that "their" engineers all have "3+ years of experience". The company was seeking more senior candidates which is fine as the job posting stated such and I do greatly appreciate Articulate accepting my application.
