      Sales Associate/Cashier Interview

      Aug 1, 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Central Market

      Interview

First step (after a brief phone screening) is a TOTeF (Taste of The Future), where you are placed in a group with 3-5 others and have a group interview, facing all of the managers that are currently hiring. It's led by a talent coach who asks you questions and tries to engage everyone.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Recreate your resume using art supplies (construction paper, stickers, glue, markers, etc)

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Central Market (Austin, TX) in Sep 2019

      Interview

The interview process was short and most importantly the interviewer (who has worked for the company for 25+ years) lacked personality and passion for position they were looking to fill. It was definitely a turn-off as a potential hire.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

The questions were read word for word from a sheet of paper, which showed lack of interest in the potential hire and/or the process. "How do you know about Central Market?"

      Question 2

"What products does Central Market offer?"

      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Central Market (Fort Worth, TX) in May 2019

      Interview

Invited for "Job Fair" which turned out to be a group interview. They start with an individual screening with a random manager which everyone always passes. Then you get to make an arts & crafts resume - literally: construction paper, glue sticks, pipe cleaners, markers & crayons, the works. You get 30 seconds to "present" your resume to the group, which now includes a panel of the random managers that did the initial interview. Next you answer a customer service scenario in small groups. Then there's identification of 10 random store products. Next you ASSEMBLE A LEGO BOAT in your group. Then you answer another service-type question. ... Now the managers all go out to another room and talk about you, leaving you all for like 30 more minutes. Finally, they call you out one at a time to either offer you a private interview or give you the "thanks for coming" line. It took FOUR HOURS.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

In the initial individual screening: - What do you know about Central Market? - Why do you want to work here? - What departments will you consider? - What are your pay and schedule expectations? In the "Taste of the Future" Group Interview that is NOT a Job Fair: - Make your arts & crafts resume and: 1> tell us about yourself, 2> tell us what position you're looking for, 3> why are you a good fit here - You're given a customer service scenario to analyze in pairs and give an answer to - You're asked to identify 10 products from the bulk & produce departments - You get to assemble a LEGO boat in group while managers watch - You're asked to choose one more service/food question to answer: your fave food memory, fave food to cook, a time you GOT great service, or a time you GAVE great service
