What I believe to be the hiring manager reached out to me via email and set up an initial phone interview, so I would say the typical recruiter/HR person was bypassed altogether (until later in the process). In the phone interview, I was asked more detailed questions that I would have expected initially, but that's okay because I had tried to prepare for anything. After that there was a second video conference interview with a "workplace quality" manager which I think was to help gauge your personality and if you would be a good fit for the team and company. The online interview was a series of (4) 30 minute interviews with various members on the team asking questions where you provide examples of how you would handle a situation based on your experience (sort of typical open ended questions). There was a backed HR/recruiter person that was facilitating the set up and giving feedback as well.
