I applied online. I interviewed at Datadog (New York, NY) in Sep 2025
Interview
I wanted to email the Recruiting Lead my feedback directly, but thought my review might be useful to other folks interviewing.
Tips for folks interviewing here:
Prepare all your answers in STAR method and make sure you are super succinct. They don’t care for any flair or details, you don’t need to show personality. That’s not what they’re looking for. This is not a conversational interview in any way.
Feedback for Datadog:
- You need to make sure your recruiters ask candidates for availability before rescheduling. My interview was rescheduled twice with no email or warning. As a recruiter myself, it’s best practice to confirm a new date and time with your candidates WITH an email. Do not just send a new calendar invite and expect the candidate to move their schedule for you. For the amount you expect folks to prepare for you, you need to be more high touch with any rescheduling that happens.
- This recruiter seems a bit condescending on the phone. It’s a bad look for Datadog.
For example:
She asked me a question, refused to answer any of my clarifying questions so I could provide her a better answer, and she refused. After I gave her my answer, she said that this role wasn’t going to be a fit for me. My usual practice as a recruiter if I get an answer I wasn’t expecting is to dig deeper into a candidate’s answer. I turned the same question on to her because I was genuinely curious how she’d answer and she said “well I don’t want to spoonfeed the answer to you”. I’ve never ever been spoken to like this in an interview.
This Recruiter left a bad taste in my mouth, and I would not want to work there even if I did pass the interview.
