Great, it was challenging but does test appropriate foundational knowledge that you use on the job. It consisted of various coding tasks and interviews. The interviews were all great and laid back.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
How have you handled previous customer objections.
I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Datadog in May 2024
Interview
The interview process is split into several rounds and took me about a month and a week to get through.
1. Phone screen with a recruiter, go over your resume and skillset to see if you are a fit.
2. Manger round. Asked behavioral questions and dove deeper into the resume. They try to gauge your skillset & communication style this round. Tried to stick to the STAR format for most questions.
3. Hackerrank. Basic scripting in BASH and SQL, nothing too tricky, The biggest part of the Hackerrank is getting the Datadog agent up and running within the provided environment. The docs were super easy to follow.
4. Onsite. Cultural/Behavioral Round, Paired Troubleshooting, and chat with the Director. They mainly want to know how you think this round, so verbalize your thought process. Honestly, I disagree with others and think the troubleshooting is fair game. The questions aren't particularly difficult, especially since you have access to all agent documentation. The troubleshooting round is the most important interview, and the hiring decision largely relies on the performance in this round.
Final Notes: Overall the team is friendly and quite accommodating. I like the fact that the interview process is pretty standardized, so the team was able to set clear expectations throughout the process.
