      Product Designer Interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at DraftKings (Boston, MA) in Mar 2018

      Interview

I had applied for a similar position before and was turned down. It was a pleasant experience with no hard feelings, we all moved on. This is important to note. A year or so afterwards, a friend of mine who was working at DK told me I should apply again and that he would put in a referral for me. I was immediately contacted by that same recruiter I worked with the first time. We had a chat about the role and things turned south. He started mentioning how he didn't appreciate that I had left a negative glassdoor review about him/the company. I was puzzled and asked what he meant, given I hadn't written any review, and he mentioned that he "knew" it was me because it was the same position and was from a referral. Apparently I was the only one who came in as a referral so it HAD to be me. I was completely shocked at this accusation because it 100% was not me. We moved on and continued the process regardless. I was given an onsite and met with multiple members of the team. They asked intuitive questions, had friendly vibes, and overall I thought it was a good process. However, after the on-site, I was told by the recruiter that they had just hired a person in a higher role who this position would report to and that the team didn't feel comfortable making an offer until this person interviewed me. The recruiter said that it could take upwards of a month since the new person was moving from out of state. I said that was fine, to keep me posted and likewise I would keep him posted as well. Fast forward 3 months, I never heard anything. I had accepted a new role already and was minding my way and finally the recruiter reached out again saying he wanted to schedule a phone call with me and the new manager hire. I agreed, as working at DK was a strong desire of mine, so I took the call. The new person was really short, to the point, and I'm not really sure if he was given all the information of my history with the company and the previous interview. I was candid with him in saying that I had already accepted a new role but was willing to hear him out. It was a fairly short conversation considering I had already done an on-site and I knew from his tone where this was going. Literally the next day I got an email saying that they were not "moving forward" with my application, as if I didn't pick that up already from waiting 3 months. Like I said, I normally don't write these reviews. I looked back and read the review that the recruiter thought was me and can see the similarity but it wasn't me. Regardless, even if it was me, I find it petty and unprofessional for someone in a field that should have thicker skin to throw accusations around without proof. Additionally, I think aside from the actual on-site, the way the interview process was handled with the new manager was poor. Aside from my experience, I talked to a few previous employees who confirmed that it was a very "bro-y" and sexist environment. What was once a dream job is now not even on my radar anymore and therefore, I don't feel bad about burning this bridge. You accused me of writing a negative review? Here's your review.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at DraftKings in Oct 2024

      Interview

The process began with a phone call from the recruiter, followed by a conversation with the team lead, who was very friendly and showed genuine interest in my background. However, when I reached the presentation stage, it felt like the team was disengaged. I could tell that some members were focused on other screens rather than my presentation.

      Interview

pretty standard. first interview with a recruiter, second interview with a team-member, then third interview with a panel & manager. everyone was great except for the manager - not sure if he realized that since his camera was on, I could see him very clearly working on other things during the entirety of the interview. this is not only super rude to an applicant, but also shows that either he doesn't manage his own time well or that he's overworked to the point that he has to work during his calls.
