I will go over everything in detail. So after you apply, you should get an email after a week or so, inviting you to do some assessments. On the day you schedule your assessments, you'll be put into a classroom type room. Mine had about 20 other people. The first test is a basic english, math, grammar, pattern recognition test. For the english, its stuff like which word is not spelled correctly out of the 4 options, or which sentence makes sense grammatically. If you know perfect English you should have no problem. The math part is stuff like what is 70% of $60? Or it takes 5hrs to get to calgary and theyre 1hr ahead, you leave at 8pm, what time is it in calgary when you arrive. Just basic. Also some basic multiplication and division. The pattern recognition is just a series of patterns and you have to determine what the next pattern will be. This could be with numbers or shapes.
After that test is done. They will spend 15 min marking it and the recruiter will come back and start calling out some names, to step outside the room. These are all the people who did not pass. If you passed then you stay in the room and do he next test which is the x-ray recognition test. The guy shows you a 20min slide show with some objects, like a book, gun, charger, water bottle, knife, etc, then shows you they're original and xray form. Then after he shows you them you do a 20 question object recognition test. The exact pictures in the slides will be the exact object you will be looking for. For example the question will say list 4 objects in the bag, then you list entering everything you see. After that test, you'll be given another xray recognition test, this time its easier. You have to determine whether the picture has either a gun, knife, explosive, or nothing. There's only 1 answer for each question.
Then after your done that, they'll mark the tests and 15min later will start calling out names, if your called to come outside it means you failed. If your still in the room without your name called then you passed! About half the people passed in my batch.
Then either they'll have an interview with you on the same day or schedule a later interview if they're busy. We had been given a later interview date. They called me a few days after to schedule my interview. The interview was the following week after I got the call.
So for the interview just bring everything they tell you to bring. Dress nicely and make sure your 15min early because my interview started 15min before my time. First he/she asks you basic questions like are you a citizen, can you drive, availability (you should say 24/7). Then asks questions like, why do you want to work at garda, how did you find out about this job, what do you think customer service as a pre screening officer means, give an example if good customer service you've done, what are some good qualities about yourself, what would you do if a customer refused to show his bag, if you got the job whats the #1 most important thing for the first day (answer is be on time), if you wanted something done your way, and everyone else disagreed how would you solve the problem. Thats all i can remember. Make sure to give solid examples, she said that my examples were really good. Then the lady really like me so she told me I got the job right after. Then I signed some background check consent forms and medical forms and I start my training next week.
