Interview
I applied for the position online. Garmin requested that we setup a telephone screen, and indicated that the interview could last an hour.
I prepared for the interview, read up on Garmin, and the position. The recruiter was punctual. However, as soon as the phone screen started I could tell it was not going to go well. The recruiter acted as if she was in a bad mood.
She almost immediately started rattling off canned interview questions, as if she was just checking them off some sort of list they've come up with internally.
I answered as best I could. There wasn't any dialog. If I joked around, I got nothing in response. I answered a question, and she fired off another one.
A lot of my responses were positive, the primary issue was that I wasn't familiar with a specific printer they use internally. I wasn't rude or anything like that. This interview was bad, and quite honestly it had nothing to do with me.
The subject of expected salary came up, and when I told her she pretty much immediately ended the interview. It lasted 10 – 15 minutes.
I get it. I wasn't the best fit because I'm not familiar with something that would probably take me an hour or two to learn on the job; no hard feelings. Maybe I'm not a fit because I asked for too much.
The bottom line is:
I was more than qualified for the position, and you acted as if I was wasting your time throughout the entire interview. You treated me pretty poorly.
If there's a salary mismatch then say something. That wasn't handled properly at all.
I understand that I'll probably never work with Garmin. However, studies have shown that people who are treated poorly or unfairly, in any type of interaction with your company have a tendency to stop buying your products, and I have to say I won't be buying Garmin for a bit. You should lock it up.
