Very delayed communication during the entire recruitment process. The interview team and employees were friendly during the interview.
Several reasons made this experience a negative one. Firstly, the communication from the recruiter was incredibly delayed at all times. I had to follow up at least 2-3 times during each stage to confirm whether or not I was even scheduled to be speaking to someone or where I was at in the interview process. I made it to a final round on-site interview which gave me the impression they were interested, but the lack of communication suggested otherwise.
Secondly, they told me they would reimburse me entirely for my trip. For some context, I was a student living in Boston at the time and had to make the trip out to New York for the interview. Since they confirmed the on-site with me the day it was scheduled, I decided to book the only Amtrak ticket that was left to the city for that day. The tickets were pretty expensive given how last minute it was, however the recruiter confirmed it was fine and that I would be fully reimbursed.
After the interview, I followed up about reimbursement on several occasions. Both the recruitment and finance team ghosted me and I never heard back. I followed up numerous times throughout the year as I was a student and it was crucial for me to get reimbursed. I even reached out to the recruiter I interviewed with on LinkedIn and I never heard back.
Please don't tell candidates that you will fully reimburse them for their expenses if you aren't able to follow through with it. It can be incredibly hard and stressful for candidates who are struggling financially.
