The day after I applied for this position I received an enthusiastic response from a recruiter stating that they "loved my [application] answers," and that they were "excited to continue the conversation with me." I also received a take-home style writing assignment that required meticulous research about the topic, an outline, and a 500 word article. I spent all day writing an engaging, informative article, which I had others read before submitting, and everyone who read it gave me very positive, enthusiastic feedback. It takes a strong writing voice to make an article about car insurance deductibles actually sound interesting. It's their loss, really.
They didn't waste any time sending me an email at 9 am today letting me know that they were passing on my application. Did they even read what I wrote? Any time this has happened to me, people wound up stealing my work. If I happen to come across this article I wrote to "assess my abilities as a writer," I'll know exactly who posted it on the internet. This interview process has been a complete waste of my time and it's not a good look, at all.

Question 1
They didn't ask me anything. All they did was get some free, undeserved labor out of me.
