Applied, shortly after had to complete an online test where I wrote some mock content for a company. After that I had a phone screen/interview, and finally an in person "tour" which was less formal than an interview, essentially it was an opportunity to check out the office while discussing the job.
All of that was fine, but in the end I felt slightly lead on. I was specifically told I was a top candidate. After the tour/interview I was told I wasn't chosen, but that they still wanted to hirer me and would keep in touch. This rubbed me the wrong way because they claimed to want to hire me but still chose someone else over me, but I understand there must've just been a better candidate.
Still, this kicked off a three or four month routine where each month I would get in touch with the hiring manager to find out if they were hiring and would be told they weren't. At first, the hiring manager reached out to me. Then I had to reach out and ask myself. And eventually I was just flat out ghosted. Kind of a frustrating process--if you don't want to hire someone, tell them that. If you do want to hire them, do it. it shouldn't be complicated.
