I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Medallia (San Jose, CA) in Jul 2015
Interview
Applied online in July. Was contacted by HR for a phone interview 5 days after. The interview went well. I was asked 3-case what-if scenario to demonstrate your current experience in this role. When it was my turn to ask question, I wanted to understand why the job had been opened for so long (at least 3 months), HR said that no one was in charge of interviewing for this position, and surprisingly I was the first one to be interviewed (honestly, i really doubted about the answer). The gal who was previously in that position left the company back in March. Anyhow, the HR phone interview went well and they invited to get a phone interview with the hiring manager. The meeting was scheduled on Friday afternoon @4pm. i know, nobody likes to take time to interview you before the weekend. So I got this last minute cancellation @3pm. We rescheduled the next Wed in the afternoon. The hiring manager who was in her position for 1 month, a Stanford and a Googler-alumnus, two perfect ingredients to be considered at Medallia, explained me that this role is very strategic for the company and has a high visibility in the company and for the management. OK, perfect. Then she asked how I envisioned this role, what the metrics are to determine a successful program. I detailed my current role and how I set up the program from the ground up, how I managed to enroll more customers, how I was able to overperform in terms of case studies production. It seemed that all these responsibilities and results were not valued. She wanted to hear something else, I guess. I asked what CRM and reference database they are using. She said Salesforce.com but she had never heard about Boulder Logic even though it was written on the job description. OK, fair enough, she might not have written the job description but at least if you are hiring for a strategic position, please try to understand and assess the need and the job internally. Try to understand what the job of the customer reference manager is, understand the customer experience.
Thank you for your detailed feedback. I'm sorry you had this experience. I talked to our recruiting team to see why the hiring manager you spoke with appeared underprepared. Your background and experience sound very impressive. I regret we didn't express this during the interview process. If you have any additional feedback, please email me at amy.pressman@medallia.com.
